Let’s talk about Datacenters, in this post — Gaseous Suppression Systems.

On the picture — gas tanks with a mix called IG-541 as a Fire Extinguisher Agent, environmentally friendly, cost-effective, offering extended hold times.

This is a vital part of any DC design — Fire Suppression Systems. Pretty self-explanatory. Why gas — it has to be something that won’t damage other equipment that won’t be affected by fire (but would be by water bases suppression systems). The purpose of gases is to displace oxygen (catalysator for fire) with neutral (inert) gases like Argon and Nitrogen.

For a DC to be considered for placing the kit in it (from a customer’s perspective) — it has to be “very good”. Now — how can we tell if a DC is good enough or safe enough for our kit? An audit is on option, but you won’t fly around the world to assess a potential DC. What you can do — is relying on an opinion from an impartial organisation like ISO (International Organization for Standardization) which issues a compliance certificate.

This certificate helps us (colocation clients) to make a judgement — id that DC has the infrastructure and elements to be considered “up to standard” that we can trust and put our kit in.
